Schubert at Lucca’s ‘Il Scompiglio’

“HOMAGE TO SCHUBERT” with Oreste Bossini and Mauro Covacich.

Director and performer Cecilia Bertoni  presents “Assemblaggi  Provvisori”  at the Tenuta dello Scompiglio in Vorno (Lucca).

On Friday June 3 at 7 pm there’s a “Homage to Schubert” with a discussion on the Fascino ambiguo del valzer (the waltz’s ambiguous charm) with musicologist Oreste Bossini (see photo) and Trieste writer Mauro Covacich, whose works frequently trace the tensions of controversial male/female relationships.

Friday, June 3 at 9 pm: “La voce seducente del male”, (“The seductive voice of evil”).  Recital by the Noûs string quartet, strings; Mirella Di Vita, soprano; Michele Pierleoni, baritone; Simone Soldati, piano.

The programme includes several Schubert Lieder including “Death and the Maiden” D531 and the quartet D810 with the same name.
“Death and the Maiden – explains Oreste Bossini – is the title of a lied by Franz Schubert who found, in his abundant and perennial vocal music, the best medium to express thoughts and feelings hidden in the darker recesses of consciousness. Often Lieder fed and fertilized his instrumental works production, as in the case of the “Death and the Maiden” quartet where the song becomes the theme for the second movement’s variations of one of the most beloved and popular string quartets.”

On Saturday 18th at 6.30 pm there’s a concert entitled “Il confine variabile del suono”, (“The variable boundary of Sound “), with Fabrizio Ottaviucci on prepared piano. “Antonio Caggiano emphasizes “the hidden song that Ottaviucci manages to bring out in John Cage’s Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano. Cage, more than anyone else represented a break with the patterns and taboos of his time, and also through its ‘liquid’ sexuality, bring us into a dreamlike dimension with soft, unstable edges… ”
