The Lucca Classical Music Festival and a Lot More!

BRUNELLO DIRECTS THE PHILHARMONICA ARTURO TOSCANINI

For three days Lucca will be filled with music. From Friday May 6th to Sunday May 8th it’s the second year of the “Lucca Classica Music Festival “, organized by the AML, the Lucchese Musical Association and the Teatro del Giglio with the collaboration of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca and the prestigious media partnership of Amadeus magazine and Rai Radio 3. Hundreds of musicians will participate in over fifty events in squares, museums, palaces and the most beautiful cities churches in a program covering many areas, bringing music to every corner of the city and involving everyone, both young and old.

On Friday, May 6th, at 9.15 pm, at the Teatro Del Giglio there’s a concert by the Philharmonica Arturo Toscanini with two exceptional soloists: Andrea Lucchesini piano and Mario Brunello (see photo), both as a cellist and conductor of the orchestra. The program consists of music by Saint Saens.

THE DELLA SCALA QUARTET WITH SIMONE SOLDATI AT THE PIANO

On Saturday, May 7th, at 9.30 pm, in the church of S. Maria dei Servi there’s a “Meeting and Concert” with an interview with Vito Mancuso followed by a performance by the La Scala String Quartet with pianist Simone Soldati (see photo). The program consists of music by Boccherini and Giacomo Puccini.

STEFAN MILENKOVICH SOLOIST WITH THE MARCHIGIANA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA

On Sunday, May 8th, at 6 pm, in the Church of Santa Maria dei Servi there’s a “Meeting and Concert” with Pamela Villoresi. A performance by the Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana with violinist Stefan Milenkovich (see photo) follows. The program includes music by Vivaldi and Astor Piazzolla.

“LUCCA CLASSICA MUSIC FESTIVAL” AWARD TO RAINA KABAIVANSKA

On Sunday, May 8th, at 9:30 pm in the Church of St. Francesco the “Lucca Classical Music Festival 2016 Award” will be given to soprano Raina Kabaivanska (see photo). The evening includes a conference followed by a concert by Raina Kabaivanska’s students:
Matteo Desole, tenor; Selene Zanetti, soprano; Paolo Andreoli, piano.

EASTER MASS AT THE CONVENTO DELL’ ANGELO

As usual on Easter Sunday at the Convento, above Ponte a Moriano, there’s Easter Mass officiated by the Passionist Fathers of the Convent. The function will be accompanied by singers and pianists of Maestro Gustav Kuhn’s ‘Montegral Academy. Pieces by Vivaldi, Franck, Handel, Rossini, Di Montegral, Bizet, J.S. Bach, Mozart and Puccini will be performed.

Holy Mass is on Sunday, 27 March at 10.30 am. Free shuttle service from Ponte a Moriano car-park (behind the theatre) from 9.00 am onwards with return from 11:30 am.

GINEVRA DI MARCO AT TEATRO ARTÈ DI CAPANNORI

March is full of events at the Cinema Theatre Arté, in via Carlo Piaggia in Capannori (LU), which will stage a new series of shows, concerts and events sponsored by Capannori in collaboration with Crew Art & Events. All shows start at 9.15 pm.

On Thursday, March 3rd there’s a concert by Ginevra Di Marco called “Donna Ginevra e le stazioni lunari “. It’s a show tracing the last six years of musical research by Ginevra Di Marco who discovers and rediscovers folk-songs from the Mediterranean to South America and beyond. During the concert there’s a sequence of emotions and colours displaying the heritage of songwriting which Ginevra was brought up in. Battiato, CSI, De Andrè, Leo Ferre, Modugno are just some of the highlights characterizing the style of the Florentine singer. Accompanying Ginevra on this trip are Francesco Magnelli (piano-magnellophones), Andrea Salvadori (guitars, tzouras) and Luca Ragazzo (drums).

On Friday, March 4th there’s entertainment in the form of theatre improvisation. ‘Match’ with Artè Improvisation of L. I. F. – Improvisation League Florence. On stage fourteen actors and a musician will improvise. The two teams will go on a stage set up like a real hockey rink, and will compete by improvising on themes offered by the audience. To monitor their acting there’s both a referee after each improvisation and a judge. The public will be asked to vote for the best team.

SMILES AND SCOUNDRELS

On Thursday, March 17th there’s “Smiles and Scoundrels”. From the popular Radio R101 Leonardo Fiaschi (see photo), with his chameleon –like skills, mimics an incredible number of entertainers, all with the db day’s band performing songs in which the Leghorn comic impersonates the most famous Italian singers, alternating musical moments with hilarious monologues and sketches where sports personalities and, political figures are all sent up resulting in a hilarious comedy-musical show. Leonardo Fiaschi is, in fact, a well-known impersonator and singer, known to the public for his participation at the Colorado Cafe (in the role of Chef Gordon Ramsay, Marco Berry, Max Allegri etc.), but also as the official voice of ‘Paperissima’, and for his program on Radio 101, “the Charge of 101″, with Cristiano Militello. It’s a show involving music, cabaret and mimicry.

GUITAR SOLO CONCERT WITH FAUSTO MESOLELLA

On Thursday, March 24th, it’s the turn of a concert by Fausto Mesolella (see photo)
SOLO GUITAR CONCERT” will open the evening retracing Fausto’s long and varied career, studded with many collaborations, prizes and awards presenting a new look as “dicitor singer” (as he likes to be called) with the “CantoStefano” project in which the musician musically interprets the poems of Stefano Benni, writer, humorist, journalist, screenwriter, playwright and poet from Bologna.

  1. Smiles and Scoundrels sounds great fun will we be going I hope so would be nice! Easter is not far behind will be great to visit the Convento dell Angelo a good marker and fixture in our yearly calendar not to be missed a fine treat for all those affliction adios of good classical well sung Church music. I need to fathom out what Andrea is doing with the choir would be nice if I have the energy to partake in a few events I love our choral singing it is one of the best choirs that we have attended I must say that each choir has had its special moments to fascinate and entertain its audience.
