Christmas cribs are descending upon Bagni di Lucca. No surprise as Bagni is one of the creative centres of nativity scenes and has been for at least two hundred years thanks to its figurinai – the craftsmen that have been producing plaster of Paris statuettes that are sold throughout the world.
In Bagni di Lucca’s town hall foyer the latest exhibition brings together two subjects.
First there’s a photographic exhibition:
Second there are some local examples of Nativity scene art
Outside the Circolo dei Forestieri the traditional big crib has been set up.
I was a little concerned that one of the dog statues had gone missing. These dogs had already been threatened with eviction on a previous occasion.
I need not have worried: the dog on the left had been covered up by part of the nativity stable!
