HOMAGE TO ASTOR PIAZZOLLA AT CASTELNUOVO GARFAGNANA’S TEATRO ALFIERI
On Saturday, December 5th at 9 pm, at the Teatro Alfieri, there’s “Il Tango Di Ieri E Piazzolla”, (“Yesterday’s Tango and Piazzolla”), organized by the “Parco nel Mondo”, chaired by Astor Piazzolla’s wife Laura Escalada Piazzolla, with the participation of the Fundacion Astor Piazzolla of Buenos Aires, its own internationally renowned artists and the “Lo que Vendra” quartet. Lao Meri, the famous writer’s voice and unpublished images of Astor Piazzolla and Buenos Aires, will accompany this immersion into the most characteristic aspects of Argentina’s history and culture.

GUSTAV KUHN HEADS THE START OF CHRISTMAS
For over fifteen years Christmas Eve has been celebrated with Midnight Mass at the Convento dell’ Angelo (above Ponte a Moriano) with the Passionist Fathers and artists from the Montegral academy conducted by Gustav Kuhn. It’s both a religious and a musical event with pieces by Bach, Mozart, Puccini, Rossini, Franck, Bizet, Handel, Liszt, Vivaldi and Adams.
Free shuttle service from the Ponte a Moriano parking lot (behind the theatre) starting from 10.30 pm and returning from 1.00 am.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT CONCLUDES ‘OPEN’ SEASON
With the Christmas concert on Friday, December 18th at 6 pm, the “Boccherini ” Conservatory concludes the OPEN artistic season that this year which has presented fifty events including concerts, meetings, seminars and master classes with distinguished guests.
As usual, the final concert will be held in Lucca’s Piazza del Suffragio auditorium and features the entire “Boccherini” orchestra conducted by GianPaolo Mazzoli.

LUCCA CATHEDRAL EPIPHANY CONCERT
Lucca’s “Santa Cecilia” Capella choir annually presents the traditional Epiphany concert on Wednesday, January 6th at St. Martin’s Cathedral after 5 pm Vespers. Opening the concert will be the choir’s children’s voices directed by Sara Matteucci, with pieces by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Handel and traditional Christmas carols. Afterwards, the ‘Ars Maxima’ Choir, directed by Rossella Island and accompanied on the organ by Giulia Biagetti, sing Vivaldi’s Gloria, Handel’s Alleluia and traditional Christmas songs. The concert is free entry.
