Puccini and his Lucca Festival

PUCCINI AND VERDI

From 1st November to 31st March “Puccini and his Lucca” festival moves to its winter headquarters at the Oratorio di San Giuseppe in the Museum of Lucca Cathedral, next to the Cathedral, in Piazza Antelminelli (heated room) and adopts its winter calendar with three weekly concerts on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays comprising a total of nearly one hundred events.

Every Thursday, at 7 pm there’s a recital titled “Puccini and Verdi” with arias, duets and intermezzi drawn from works by the two greatest Italian composers, played by soloists of the “Puccini and his Lucca” festival accompanied on the piano by Diego Fiorini. This winter the “Puccini and his Lucca” Festival is twelve years old and continues its regular programme of Puccini’s music. It’s the only festival celebrating Giacomo Puccini in his hometown, with events, programs and soloists which are always different (the concerts cannot be repeated more than once a year with the same soloists and the same programme). There have been almost 4,200 concerts and over 70 artistes since the festival’s start. It’s a must for anyone visiting the Giacomo Puccini’s home territory!
