PUCCINI CONCERT-MOVIE AT CINEMA CENTRALE

The “Lucca – i giorni di Puccini – Lucca Puccini Days”, festival which opens on November 13 and ends on January 10 is an event that, under Giacomo Puccini’s umbrella title, offers a great variety of musical experiences, ranging from opera to sacred music and from jazz to film music.

On Friday, November 27th at 9 pm at the Cinema Centrale, there’s the concert film “Jonas Kaufmann, An Evening with Puccini”.

A NIGHT AT THE OPERA IN SAN COLOMBANO

On December 6th at 6 pm, in Casermetta San Colombano on the city walls, there’s a concert entitled “A night at the opera” with Giovanni Dagnino’s singing class from the “Luigi Boccherini” Music Institute. The program includes music by Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini.

THE ARROSTI MUSIC ARCHIVE AND CATHEDRAL ORGAN CONCERT

On Saturday, December 12th in the Oratorio San Giuseppe at 9 am there’s a concert of music from the archive of the Arrosti family. This will be followed at 11 am by a guided tour of St Martino Cathedral (adjacent Oratory) with an organ concert by Giulia Biagetti, organist of the Cathedral of Lucca. On Sunday, December 13th, in the Casermetta San Colombano on the city walls, at 6 pm, there’s a concert by the brass Octet of the “L. Boccherini” Musical Institute conducted by Remo Pieri. The programme includes music by Mozart and Puccini.

CELLO AND PIANO DUO AT THE ASSOCIAZIONE INDUSTRIALI

INAUGURAL CONCERT FOR THE NEW ACADEMIC YEAR

The 2015-2016 academic year of the “L. Boccherini” Institute of Music will open with a major event on Saturday, November 14th with the Institute’s orchestra in the Boccherini’ Auditorium at Piazza del Suffragio square in Lucca.

The event will start at 5 pm with the presentation of the new issue of the “codice 602” magazine published by Sillabe, full of interesting articles of musicological research, essays and analysis. Afterwards, there will be a concert by the Orchestra dell’Istituto Cittadino conducted by Gian Paolo Mazzoli, who will present a program of music of great appeal and popularity, with the Prelude from Bizet’s Carmen, the prelude from Verdi’s Nabucco and Beethoven third piano concerto (soloist is young pianist Leonardo Macerini). The event, with free admission, is part of the season Boccherini OPEN 2015 Billboard fully available at: http://www.boccherini.it

CHORAL CONCERT FOR THE CENTENARY OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR

On Saturday, November 7th in the church of San Francesco at 9 pm, as part of the events organized by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca, there will be a choral concert with the ” Monte Cauriol ” choir of Genoa, in tribute to the soldiers in WWI.

“… Up there among the rocks – the memory of war, of places, of life on the centenary of the Great War” is the title of the evening, which will be introduced by a short performance by the ” Giacomo Puccini ” choir Camigliano, conducted by Luigi Della Maggiora, who produced the evening.

The ” Monte Cauriol ” choir was founded in Genoa in 1949 by university students passionate about mountains. The group is true elite in the field of national choral style, unmistakable, brilliant and refined. Its repertoire includes popular alpine and mountain songs. The choir was directed in the early 50s by Armando Corso, and was highly successful thanks to his research in popular song, so much so that he was invited by RCA Italian to record eight LP’s. Between 1990 and 2003 it recorded six new CDs. The choir, which has performed more than 1200 concerts in Italy and abroad, has been directed since 2013 by Armando’s son Massimo Corso.

A “PUCCINI SUNDAY” BY THE “ALFREDO CATALANI” CIRCLE

The “Alfredo Catalani” circle of friends of music from Lucca and Porcari, with the “Fondazione Simonetta Puccini “, organizes on Sunday, November 15th, at 3.30 pm at the Villa Museo Puccini of Torre del Lago (LU), a vocal and instrumental concert entitled “Domenica Pucciniana” with soprano Raffaella Angeletti, and pianist Federica Bianchi. Using the historic and prestigious piano (with “dampers” to play at night), where Giacomo Puccini composed many of his works, they will perform music by Alfredo Catalani and Giacomo Puccini. The concert will be accompanied by the reading of comments and historical notes by Maria Bicchi, and will be followed by a visit to the museum and the villa’s recently restored bedroom. PUCCINI “LEVILLI” IN SIXTY MINUTES

On Saturday, November 28th, at 9.15, in the “Vincenzo da Massa Carrara” Auditorium in Porcari, the “Alfredo Catalani” Friends of Music of Lucca and Porcari present a third “L’opera in sessanta minuti” event which is focused on ” Le Villi “, the opera-ballet in two acts by Giacomo Puccini with libretto by Ferdinando Fontana. The stars of the evening will be singers Giuseppe Altomare, Gaia Matteini, Samuel Simoncini, narrator Piero Nannini, and pianist Laura Pasqualetti.

Direction and staging by Emiliana Paoli; choreography by Loredana Bruno; “Armonia Arte Danza e Movimento”  ballet corps with dancers Annamaria Lazzari and Bianca Meoni; Lighting by Dino Cinelli and Matteo Rubens Lunardi.
