OPERA RECITAL FOR THE 180th ANNIVERSARY OF VINCENZO BELLINI’S DEATH
On Monday, September 14 at 9 pm in Lucca’s Palazzo Ducale Ademollo Hall, the Kalliope Association is presenting an operatic evening, ‘Alla Luna’, with “The Three Sopranos” consisting of Paola Massoni, Barbara Luccini and Simona Bertini, accompanied by pianist Aliano Frediani. The concert is dedicated to Vincenzo Bellini on the 180th anniversary of his death. It’s an elegant musical event, with three brilliant international sopranos who will present, each with her own nuances and uniqueness, the most precious jewels of the repertoire, lieder and songs connected by the theme of the moon, the inspirational figure of Casta Diva, the famous aria from ‘Norma’. The three sopranos have held concerts with a rich repertoire ranging from opera to lieder and song, heritage not only in Italy, homeland of Bel Canto, but also the whole world, which has always been fascinated by so much beauty. OPERA RECITAL IN PIAZZA CITTADELLA
On Thursday, September 11th in Piazza Cittadella, at 6.30 pm, there’s an operatic recital titled “Puccini’s Tosca” with a selection of arias, duets and ensembles drawn from the masterpiece of the Luccan composer. Participating are Rossana Cardia (Tosca), Mirko Matarazzo (Cavaradossi) and Pedro Carrillo (Scarpia), accompanied on piano by Massimo Morelli. The concert is organized by the Teatro Del Giglio as part of the Follow Puccini in Lucca series. POLIFONICA LUCCHESE PERFORM ALFREDO CATALANI’S MASS
On Saturday, September 19th at 5.30 pm the church of San Michele will host the tenth edition of “Concerto per San Michele”, one of the most important musical events of the Lucchese September and organized by the AML (Lucchese Music Association) and the Polifonica Lucchese.
Under the direction of Egisto Matteucci, the city’s well-known choir and the “Luigi Boccherini” chamber orchestra will perform the Mass in E minor by Alfredo Catalani. Soloists are soprano Mirella Di Vita, alto Christianne Bakker, tenor Marco Mustaro and bass Roberto Lorenzi.
The Mass in E minor (1872), composed by Catalani when eighteen, was to be performed in San Paolino for the feast of the city’s patron saint. However, it was performed for the first time in 1872 in San Martino cathedral and only later in San Paolino. This work was presented by Catalani as a final test for his studies at the Istituto Musicale “G. Pacini ” in Lucca where Giacomo Puccini also studied (the future” Istituto Musicale Luigi Boccherini “) after which he went to the Paris Conservatoire.
Rounding out the concert program, will be some newly edited works by the composer when young such as “A sera” and “In un sogno”, in the version transcribed for strings, and “Andantino” and “Scherzo” for symphony orchestra.

DEMETRIO COMUZZI OPENS THE OPEN GOLD FESTIVAL
On Wednesday, September 9th at 9 pm in the auditorium Del Suffragio there’s a chamber concert with Demetrio Comuzzi on viola and Anna Maria Curti Giardina at the piano. The duo will perform music by Schumann, Brahms, Schubert, Glinka, Longo, Bossi and Bridge. The event is part of the OPEN GOLD Festival sponsored by Lucca’s “L. THREE RENOWNED INTERNATIONAL SOLOIST WITH THE BOCCHERINI INSTITUTE ORCHESTRA
On Friday, September 11th at 9 pm in the auditorium Del Suffragio there’s a special concert with soprano Yuka Nakao, clarinettist Giampiero Sobrino and cellist Raphael Wallfisch. The three soloists will be accompanied by the full orchestra of the “L. Boccherini” institute conducted by Giovanni Bria. The program includes music by Mozart, Haydn, Donizetti and Verdi.
STRAUSS’S “ENOCH ARDEN” IN LUCCA
On Wednesday, September 16th at 9 pm in the auditorium Del Suffragio there’s the first performance in Lucca of “Enoch Arden”, melodrama for piano and narrator op. 38 by Richard Strauss to words by Tennyson. Performers are Dario Garofalo (narrator) and Carlo Palese (piano).
BOCCHERINI INSTITUTE ORCHESTRA IN CONCERT
On Sunday, September 27th at 9 pm in the auditorium Del Suffragio there’s a great concert by the Orchestra of the “L. Boccherini” music institute conducted by GianPaolo Mazzoli with the young pianist Kanami Noda. In the program is Schubert’s third symphony and Beethoven’s third piano Concerto.
THE CELONI OGNISSANTI AND BARTELLONI TRIO, CONCLUDES OPEN GOLD 2015
On Wednesday, September 30th at 9 pm in the auditorium del Suffragio a concert will conclude the OPEN GOLD 2015 Festival with Luca Celoni violin, Paolo Ognissanti cello and Leonardo Bartelloni piano. The program will consist entirely of music by Beethoven.
“LUCIANA PARDINI” SILVER PLAQUE AWARD FOR DANCER NICOLÒ NOTO
On Sunday, September 20th at 5.30 pm in the Vincenzo da Massa Carrara Auditorium, Porcari, the “Alfredo Catalani” Friends of Music Circle organizes the eighteenth year of “In sogno” in which the “Luciano Pardini” Silver Plaque will be awarded.
The award is given annually to young persons in the lyrical, instrumental, prose or dance field. For 2015, the prize is awarded to dancer Nicholas Noto. The young artist has managed to broaden the horizons of his classical training, competing with other disciplines, from contemporary to modern, resulting within a short time in important national and international awards. Noto has performed dance in major Italian and foreign theatres, boasts important collaborations both in classical and modern dance and is known by the general public for winning the television show “Amici.” He is currently a member of the Teatro dell’Opera dance company in Rome. The event will include, in addition to the award, a performance by the dancer to music by major classical and contemporary musicians.

SARDINIAN CHORUS IN THE CHURCH OF SAN SALVATORE
On Friday, September 11th at 9 pm in the Church of San Salvatore (piazza Della Misericordia) there’s a concert by the Women’s Choir of the city of Portoscuso, Carbonia province, Iglesias, Sardinia.
The event is included in the 2015 programme “Sui Sentieri della musica “, now in its thirteenth year. The Sardinian female choir, directed by Maestro Andrea Medda, performs a vast repertoire ranging from folk songs to contemporary Sardinian music. As per tradition, the guest choir will be welcomed by the Lucchese vocal group “Il Baluardo “directed by Elio Antichi, who will present songs from popular repertoire accompanied on guitar by Gabriele Cinquini and on keyboard by Tiziano Mangani. BOURGEROIS TRIO AT THE PFANNER PALACE
Now in its seventh year, in the splendid setting of Palazzo Pfanner (Via degli Asili 33), the “Suoni di Lucca” musical season presents again this year a varied range of music with great artists often playing rarely performed pieces of great interest.
The season consists of four concerts included in the Lucchese September program. On Friday, September 11th at 9.15 pm, a concert by the Bourgerois trio (Alessandro Clerici, violin, Andrea Favalessa, cello, Maria Semeraro, piano) perform music by Haydn, Brahms and Dvorak.

XXXVII CAMIGLIANESE CHORAL FESTIVAL
On Saturday, September 26th, in Camigliano’ parish church at 9 pm, there’s the second evening of the XXXVII Camiglianese Choral festival promoted by the local “Giacomo Puccini” choir with the patronage of the Capannori comune and financial contributions by the CRL and BML Foundations.
Guest choirs include “La Coralina St. Agata di Cadro” (Ticino) directed by Patrizia Cansini (organist Daniela Di Paola; guitar Paolo Di Casola). The women’s group, founded in 2006, will perform a repertoire of sacred music.
The other guest choir will be the “Pasubio” choir from Vallarsa (see photo) from Trento province. The choir has its roots in mountain folk song and in 2016 celebrates 50 years of concerts activities with six CD recordings. The last of these, titled “Oltre le Montagne’ (Beyond the Mountains), contains new compositions by their current director, Ivan Cobbe. The evening opens with the “Giacomo Puccini” choir, Camigliano, conducted by Luigi Della Maggiora.
SANTA CROCE OPERA GALA WITH THE LUCCA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
The Lucca Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Andrea Colombini continues its 2015 season with two concerts sponsored by the Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lucca with its president Alberto Del Carlo and the Insieme Foundation with the Presidency of Gianfranco Barrago. These are the two events in the program of the Lucchese September.
The first is on Monday, September 14th at 9.15 pm (day of the Holy Cross) in the Chiesa dei Servi with the traditional “Gala Opera of Santa Croce” and the participation of the following soloists:
